A Jack O' Lantern toolbox is a must-have for both the amateur and professional
pumpkin carver. Not only is it useful year after year but it is a handy way
of keeping all of your carving tools together in one place. Plus if you have
your own knives and saws your wife or husband can't get upset if you bend
one of them on a particularly tough rind.

First off you'll need to make sure you have a toolbox thats big enough to
hold all of your tools. As you can see, I'm pretty serious about my Jack O'
Lanterns, necessitating a pretty big toolbox.
One of the most important tools in your chest is a nice set of knives. I picked
up this set at Walmart for under Ten dollars. You'll want a chef's knife for
carving the opening to the pumpkin, plus a couple of smaller knives for trimming
and whatnot.
A
lot of people advocate using a large spoon for removing the pulp from the
pumpkin, I personally like using the Scoop-It pumpkin scoop (left) or an ice-scream
scoop (right). I've seen the Scoop-It at many stores, including the superstores
like Walmart, craft stores such as Michaels, and at quite a few of the seasonal
Halloween stores.
Scrapers are useful for thinning the walls of the pumkin for your design. The Scoop-It is also a good tool for this job.

You can use the pokers and drills that come with the Pumpkin Masters Kits,
but I prefer an icepick and the Pumpkin Drill/Saw. Sadly I've not been able
to find another Drill/Saw since I purchased this one from a seasonal Halloween
Store.

Tiny saw blades help to cut out the design. The ones pictured are from the
Pumpkin Master's kits, but you can also use Grapefruit knives.

A few spare saws doesn't hurt either. ![]()
They tend to break easily.
